
Whitney E. Youngs
These days Whitney write stories mostly about musicians. She contributes to the Easy Reader, a weekly independent newspaper based in Hermosa Beach, Calif.
Born in Newport Beach, Calif., raised in San Diego, Calif., Whitney moved to Los Angeles in 1996 to attend U.C.L.A. and graduated with a degree in sociology. In 2000, she got a job as a reporter at the ER’s rival, The Beach Reporter, where she covered the city of Hermosa Beach: the birthplace of hardcore punk’s Black Flag and surfing photographer LeRoy Grannis and the residence of Irish-born writer, Leonard Wibberley.
In 2006, Whitney returned to San Diego to take a job as assistant editor for three print weeklies: Rancho Santa Fe Review, Carmel Valley News and the Del Mar Times.
In 2009, Whitney moved to Chicago, Ill., to attend graduate school at Northwestern University; she graduated in 2015. She still lives in the City of the Big Shoulders with her longtime partner, Grogg and their son, Dashiell, who was born in 2020.
