Hermosa Beach Police arrested and charged a former Manhattan Beach fourth-grade school teacher with three felony counts of sexual assault Monday after he allegedly attacked a woman on a Hermosa Beach walk street last month.

According to Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Jodi Link, Aran Anthony Delaney, a 26-year-old Hermosa Beach man, is charged with single counts of forcible rape, penetration with a foreign object and sodomy that could land him in prison for up to 24 years.

Delaney recently pleaded not guilty to the charges in Torrance Superior Court during his arraignment. His next court date is scheduled for July 22. Delaney is out on $250,000 bail.

Delaney taught fourth grade at American Martyrs, a Catholic school in Manhattan Beach, last year. He resigned following the allegations and the school has since hired a new teacher.

Aside from charges sexual in nature, prosecutors also filed allegations Delaney allegedly caused great bodily harm to his 32-year-old victim, who suffered a broken collarbone.

According to police, the crime occurred between the hours of 12:30 and 1 a.m. June 29 on a 26th Street walk street. Delaney reportedly met the woman at the North End Bar and Grill in the 2600 block of Hermosa Avenue.

Delaney and two other men approached the victim and her two friends inside the bar. Delaney reportedly used vulgar sexual language in front of the victim and acted aggressive toward her.

The victim refused his advances while one of the other men bought her a drink. Soon after the victim felt very sick and intoxicated.

According to police, Delaney insisted the woman go for a walk with him on the beach. She said she needed air and went outside the bar. She once again told Delaney she didn’t want to have sex with him and accompanied him down the walk street.

Police said that Delaney then allegedly attacked her and sexually assaulted her until she blacked out.

Detectives are still awaiting tests as to whether the woman was drugged.

The woman’s friends later found her sick and lying on the ground. They took her to Hermosa’s police station and she was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Both the victim’s friends and Delaney’s friends identified him as the suspect, and the woman later picked him out of a photo lineup.

Police issued a warrant for Delaney’s arrest and he turned himself in at the city’s police station July 3.
